Riyadh: Former Guangzhou Evergrande head coach and Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro will take charge of Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr, it has been announced.

Cannavaro, who left Guangzhou in June after seven months in charge, is set to oversee the seven-time Saudi champions until the end of the season.

The 42-year-old replaces Jorge da Silva, who was relieved of his duties in the wake of Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Al Shabab in the Crown Prince Cup. Al Nassr are currently seventh in Abdul Latiff Jameel Saudi Professional League standings.

Before leaving Guangzhou, World Cup-winner Cannavaro had guided the East Asian powerhouse to the top of the Chinese Super League standings as well as the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League.
