Doha: The FT-AFC Future of Football Summit has been cancelled as a mark of respect for the sudden passing of the former Emir of Qatar, HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Hamad Al Thani.

“The State of Qatar has entered into a three-day period of mourning following the death of HH Sheikh Khalifa Bin Hamad Al Thani,” The Financial Times announced on its website.

“To ensure we demonstrate the appropriate respect to the people of Qatar, we have taken the decision to cancel the FT-AFC Football Summit at the Four Seasons Hotel in Doha.

“While we appreciate this will cause some disruption, we are sure you will join us in offering our sincerest condolences to the Emir of Qatar, HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, at this time.”

The summit, which was to be opened by Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, aimed to bring leaders in the football industry together to discuss Asian football progress and development.
